Winfred Hughes and Darryl West

Here are two who can make the reunion more fun because they have such a sense of humor. Darryl like Janice and Jennie travel a long way to get there but go every year. Dorothy's son Winfred lives right there in town. Winfred on left and Darryl on right. I forget that there are lots of people who look at the blog and wouldn't know who is who.

Sumner Family

Judy got a good photo of Jerry and Pearl. I know that they were so happy to get a visit from Sarah and the children. I just remembered the son's name is Joshua and who knows the girls names might come to me before I finish.

More of the Sumner Family

I am having a little problem, trying to write before I choose a photo, Isn't that a goofy way to try to work, ha. I also have to be careful and get the names right. Judy put names under each photo but now that I have to change things around, it seems that I have lost that part. She did a wonderful job of making an album which is just about perfect. I found a photo of Osha and her daughter Etta. Osha called me as soon as she got home Sunday to tell me how well the reunion went.

Jennie and Vivian

Jennie and Vivian still look good and healthy, ha. They are older than I so that gives me some hope. The four sisters are all that is left so if you younger generation wants to find out more about the family, you better get a list of your questions out for us to answer. Gosh as I write this, I sure am starting to feel old.

Sumner Family Reunion

Dorothy and Judy look happy, ha, That usually happens at our reunions because it is the only time that everyone gets together to talk about what they have been doing all year. Also the young kids sure grow up in a hurry. I can't believe how some of them have grown and it is hard to pick them out.

Sumner Family Reunion June 24, 2007

This is the first year that Sarah Morton and her three children could attend the Reunion. I can't remember all their names but they sure are cute. Everyone said there were more there this year. I hope you all enjoy these photos.

Wally's Grand Children

On the very left is Debbie, Wally Jr's daughter. then there is Tracy Lynn and her brother Scott, Ronald and Arlene's children. I sure hope I am getting the names right. I keep in touch with Tracy as often as I can and I just wait anxiously for her to answer. I just love hearing from any of my great nieces and nephews.

Wally's Son Ronald and Wife Arlene

This is Ronald and Arlene Sumner at their son, Joe's Wedding. I think this is a good picture. That was about two years ago but I put them in my album and forgot I had them. That is why it pays to go through your picture albums every once in a whle. Arlene has a brother who lives here in Florida and I keep hoping that if they ever come down again that they will have a chance to stop by to visit me.

Wallace E. Sumner

From the way Wallace looks, I am sure he enjoyed his little home there and I bet Agnes appreciated it when he brought her home. I hope it brought themn both lots of enjoyable times. Life can get lonely at times. Golly, here I go saying things that show what I am feeling tonight. Just hope you all will get on the blog and check out my hard work, ha. ha. Just kidding.

Wallace Earl Sumner

It seems that the photos are not as clear as they should be, if you have trouble with that click on the photo and it will become much larger so you will see it much better, that is for all the photos on this blog. I think his little snow ball dog is so cute and I know he took good care of it.

Wally Sr and his dog, snow ball

I found these photos and know the family don't have any of them so I will put them on the blog for everyone to see. I wanted to wait a while after his passing so it would be easier. He sure had a cute little home there in New Jersey, I believe. It looks like he was very happy there.

Wallace Sumner Sr and Wallace Sumner Jr

I was looking through my photos and found a much better one of them. I have so many pictures that I can't remember what all I do have. I hope you all like this one much better. I had a really nice visit with Wally Jr last week. We had a lot to talk about, I hardly ever get that chance. This photo was made when we had the reunion at Vivians home. I was so warm that day that if I found a tiny hole of water somewhere, I think I would have just fell in.

Stephanie Doke's Graduation

This may be # 2 of Stephanie because I am going to try to get a larger photo, Stephanie graduated from University of Palm Bay, FL on June 1, 2007. She got her Masters in business management with honors. She has lived in Florida for a few years now and it really isn't too awfully far from where I live.

Lindsay Grace Watson

This is my namesake who just graduated Pre-School and was promoted to second grade. Isn't that great? And by the way, my full name is Grace Lorraine. I had a hard time in school remembering that I was Grace, ha. Lindsay is Judy and Bob's grand daughter, maybe that is why she is so smart. ha. I think this photo is so cute, Imagine wearing a cap and gown when you graduate from Pre-School.

Parents of Those Air Force Cadettes

This is all the parents of those young men and the one woman. Second on the left is Dennis then his wife Sue. I know this is a special time for all of them and I know it must be mixed feelings of pride and concern. I think they are all going to be pretty busy with the graduation and many other things. I hope all the family will check out these photos. I think they are soooo good.

Zachary Sumner and Air Force Buddies

I think this is such a good picture of Zachary and his buddies who will graduate with him. (Facebook+my photos++ ring dance) Out of my understanding, ha. Of course that is Zachary on the end at the right. What a group of beautiful young people. I wish them all the very best in their careers with the U.S. Air Force.

Osha Sumner Farmer's 90th Birthday

I think this is such a good picture of Osha that I just wanted to show it in case some of the family check into the Blog and haven't seen it for some reason. Of course everyone knows that Osha is really the only one to make it past 80 years of age. I wish the others could have lasted much longer but that is all in Gods hands. I miss those who have left us so very much but I guess I should be thankful that I had a chance to grow up with them all.

God Bless each and every one of my dear family. I love you all very much. (Lorraine)

Second Lieutenant Zachary Sumner

I just got an invitation from Zachary and he will be commissioned Second Lieutenant in May, 2007. I just wanted to put this on the blog so everyone could see what a terrific young man he is now. It sounds like his parents are planning a great party for him. I think that is so nice. I tried to make his photo much bigger but my computer is acting up because it isn't home, it is in a new place, I am moving. Wish me luck.If the photo is too small just click on it and it is so much better. I am hopeful that I will be able to make it larger myself. Gee I guess I am losing touch with photos. They have changed things on this blog. ha, ha. Guess they got me this time. Oh, by the way, I contacted Joyce and she fixed the photo for me. ha.

Looks like Korea!!!

This looks like a war zone. Roger was in a Mash Unit and he didn't like it, he thought it took away from all the soldiers who were being brought in with such terrible wounds. Roger was master sergeant but then was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer, he would have gone much higher if he had gone to college which he had thought about but then decided he wouldn't do that. I believe he was getting tired and was glad to be home with Isabell and the boys. Oh!!! I just remembered something. One night I dreamed that Roger came home on a leave and when I got up in the morning, I kept telling Osha, Vivian and all of them that Roger was coming home that day. They all kept saying "no he isn't" Guess what!!, He did come home that day and surprised them all. I do believe in dreams. ha. ha.

Roger Sumner

From what I remember and am hearing Roger spent 20 years or more in the Army, sometimes Isabell and the boys would live near the base in another country, I believe they lived in Germany at one time. He was stationed at Fitz Simmons General Hospital, in Colorado for quiet some time. He was sent to Korea during the war, he was in the Mash Unit so he saw the condition of the soldiers when they brought them in wounded for he and the medical team to care for. I remember reading a letter from him talking about how terrible it was to see those young boys in such a terrible shape. Roger had a big heart and cared about the soldiers who were wounded.

Roger William Sumner

I am not sure when this photo was taken but it is good of Roger, and now when I look at it, I can see so much of Berlin in him. I guess we all favor each other at different ages. It must be in Colorado due to the snow I see in the back ground.

A Letter from Zachary Sumner

This is the e-mail I got from Zachary about his Grandpa, Roger Sumner.
Feb. 07, 2007: Aunt Lorraine, Great to hear from you, the picture of Dad, Jim, Grandma and Grandpa is my favorite too. Grandpa was a Chief Warrant Officer and I still remember when Grandma and I had the times to talk about his army days she said how he was the youngest person to make Master Sergeant in the army in his day, such an accomplishment but doesn't surprise me with such an amazing man. I was wondering if you could tell me some stories of Grandpa when you guys were younger, I justhave so many questions all the time and know that you might be the one that can help me. It seems sometimes in life we always wait for that perfect time to sit down and ask questions but when our loved ones are taken from us, those times no longer exist. Not sure if Grandpa ever told you or maybe Grandma did, when I was a little boy Grandpa was my hero(still is), I wouldn't let a second go by where he wasn't directly in front of me. We would eat vienna sausages, whiz cheese and crackers and granny smith apples...just thinking about those days brings tears to my eyes...but those days I'll never forget. Sorry about rambling on, I just think this is so awsome how you are using the internet and e-mail, and I have so many questions about the Sumner family and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Love,
Zachary

Roger, Isabell, Jim and Dennis

I just love this picture of the family. I am not sure of the ages of the boys. I just loved Isabell, she had such a sense of humor, always making a funny remark. Of course everyone loved Roger, I remember how my nieces always showed so much love for him. I didn't get to see any of them for years due to the sickness in my family.

Regina Mulcahy

This is Douglas and Mildred's daughter. She went to South Carolina with Janice this past year. She seemed to have a great time. There was nine of us and then we got to see Arlene and Laura. Vivian fell and her knee swelled so Janice took her to a doctor and that doctor put Vivian in the hospital because of irregular heart beat and kept her over night, we were all very concerned about her. Jo Ann and I had car trouble on the way up and I was just totally exhausted.

Regina's Other Grand Daughter

This is Erica Arrasmith, she is 6 years old. I know Regina is very proud of her grand daughters and I don't blame her. I know Douglas would be proud of his grandchildren if he was still here.

Regina's Grand Daughters

Breanna Hesler, stepdaughter, 7 years old, Brianna Bare 3 years old and Lacie Hesler 8 months old. Children of Jennifer, I have never seen them as I don't get to the reunions any more.

Grace Lorraine Strochansky

This is my High School graduation picture in 1945. I almost quit school, then I thought about Berlin in the war and wanting me to finish high school, he was sending me money each month and I just couldn't let him down. I was also working part time, making thirty cents an hour and then later I went to Montgomery Wards and made forty cents an hour. Sure sounds low doesn't it.

Unknown By Me

I am going to post this and if anyone knows who it is please leave a comment on the blog. I know Grandma and Grandpa had many children. This also could be a Dixon.

Roger W. Sumner and ???

Roger is with some one that I am not sure of. If anyone knows who this is please let me know. I was too young at that time and am not sure about some of the older photos.

Robin and William Mattingly

Robin also is enjoying her Son. She has such a nice web page on him since her was born. I sure wish I could do what they do on computers as far as being so neat and perfect on the life of their little boy. I won't even think of doing as well.

Scott and William Mattingly

I have finally figured out how to get the photos to where I can post them on the Blog. Scott is so proud of his son, I guess you can tell that though. Judy keeps me informed on how her grandchildren are doing. I am sure Judy and Bob are enjoying them. Lindsay is really getting to be a smart little girl.

William Mattingly and Cat

I am going to have to learn how to get the adobe photos in (My Pictures) so I can put them on the blog. Or learn how to do them without having to post them on (My Pictures). Anyone got any idea how I can do it?
This was taken at Christmas time 2006. He is the grandson of Robert and Judy.

Donald Morton

I have to laugh when I see this picture of Donald, he looks so serious. As I do this, memories are coming back. Once, Donald was teasing me about a guy that I liked and he just kept it up until I threw my shoe at him and it hit the glass door and broke it. I heard about it when Johnny and Ruby got home. Donald got a good laugh out of that. We forgot all about it in no time. Actually Donald is like a brother to me as he was only four years younger than I and I lived with them during my last years of highschool.

Jerome Morton

This is cute, that is just the way Jerry was most of the time, a big smile. They lived on 2nd Street in Covington right near the Ohio river and one year, can't remember what year, the Ohio started rising and Johnny and Ruby had to go out and buy a home so we could move away from that river. I do believe the water went all the way to the second floor. Osha and Gordon lived in the same building on the second floor and they had to go find a place to live. They went to Cincinnati.

Dorothy Mae Morton

I am not sure when Dorothy had this photo done, she sure looks nice. There must have been some special occasion for her. She used to take Jerry with her and watch him when they were playing games after school, he would run and call out(sissy, wait for me) Today John's son looks so much like Jerry when he was the same age.

Wallace Earl Sumner

This photo was taken on the road just in front of our house. We didn't take photos then like we do now. When Wallace was about that age, he went and stayed with the Tipton family, he was good friends with Jr. Tipton. They had a dairy and Wallace worked with them and then they took the milk in big milk cans to Winchester to be sold. Wallace was a big cutup, he kept his sense of humor and was lots of fun to be around, that is except when he would get a green snake and tease us with it.

Our House on Lower Cane Creek

I believe our Father was building our house, it was nice but the upstairs was never finished due to the depression. I remember that Papa would say, "we don't have much, but lets keep what we do have clean" Things were really hard then but I was happy just making my play house on the nice green moss, I remember that I couldn't wait to take my shoes off and feel that soft moss. I was always climbing, jumping etc. like me sitting on the banister in this photo, Doug is down in the yard, only a baby and that is Dorothy just starting to go in the door. I believe Johnny and Ruby moved to Covington about that time.

James Berlin Sumner

This picture was taken in London, Ky. He and Roger were there at the same time but Berlin didn't go to Texas, he came back home. I like his dog, he always took good care of his dog. Once he had the most beautiful hound dog and he was the best hunting dog. Berlin took such good care of him, later someone stole him because he was such a good hunting dog. I like this photo of him.

Osha Sumner Farmer

When I first looked at this photo I thought it was Ruby but as I looked a little closer, it was Osha. These are all photos that Molly sent me to put on the blog. She found them among Roger and Isabell's photos. I am only too happy to put them on the blog and I enjoy seeing them. Osha is now 89 years old and is doing very well, She has had parkinsons for a few years now.

Roger W. Sumner

When Roger was in London, Ky, Our Mother's sister, Louisia and her husband were visiting. Roger went and stayed in Texas and worked in their wheat fields. Osha told me today that it was from there that Roger went into the Army. I will always remember the dolls Roger sent me and Jennie for Christmas, they had on the most beautiful coats, hats and white shoes, Jennie and I were thrilled to get them.

Roger W. Sumner

I am not sure how old Roger was here. That is how I remember him the most as being very thin, I know he worked hard to get a good education. He visited our Mother's brothers in London, Ky. He graduated from Stanton, KY highschool. As I remember, he went into the Army not long after that and retired from years in Service.

Mattie Dixon Sumner

This is my Mother when she was so beautiful before she got so sick with T.B. I am sure she suffered for years before she died. I was only about two and a half when she died. I can't remember anything about her but in my minds eye, I remember being upset and I can see the house where we lived and a coffin being taken to the cemetery just across from our house.

Roger,Berlin, Jennie,Osha, Ruby and Vivian

Molly sent me this photo and it really is good, If anyone knows when it was made, please let me know, I figured it was in the late 50's or 60's. I just was not able to go home any at that time. I will be putting more photos on the blog that Molly is sending me.

Lindsay Grace Watson

Another picture of Lindsay Grace, ( my namesake) She is getting so big and before we know it she will be all grown up. Judy, Angela and Lindsay visited me when she was only a baby, and she was the best baby I had ever seen, so good but when I would laugh, she would look at me so funny and that made me laugh more. I have a very loud laugh sometimes. Now she is six years old. She just had a birthday.
